AI-Driven Revolution in Chess — New Opportunities and Ethical Challenges

Chess Grandmaster Bartłomiej Macieja

Chess is widely viewed as the king of board games because it balances “easy to learn, hard to master” gameplay with purely skill-based strategy. The development of traditional and machine-learning chess engines has enabled unprecedented progress worldwide, shrinking chess-literacy and digital-literacy gaps. It has also brought ethical challenges that need to be addressed.

AI and the Future of Science

Prof. Włodzisław Duch

Frontier AI models have surpassed humans in several programming and mathematical competitions. In the life sciences, systems such as AlphaFold and related tools have become indispensable. Physics-informed machine learning is applied from quantum systems to weather prediction. AI is used to identify new phenomena, design experiments and make discoveries at the conceptual level. Superhuman performance is achieved by self-improving models. New research platforms are being created in which humans work with teams of specialised AI agents.
