Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs visits IPPT PAN

Ethical and responsible use of artificial intelligence was a main theme of the visit of Deputy Minister of Digital Affairs Dr Dariusz Standerski to IPPT PAN. The meeting presented the work of the UNESCO Chair and AI research carried out at the Institute.

Guests were welcomed by Prof. Tadeusz Burczyński, Director of the Chair. Prof. Janusz Szczepański, Director of IPPT PAN, outlined the Institute’s research. Dr hab. Łukasz Jankowski, Deputy Director for Research, spoke about AI work at the Institute. Katarzyna Walczyk-Matuszyk presented planned projects and initiatives.

The discussion, with the Ministry of Digital Affairs, NASK and Prof. Michał Kleiber, concerned cooperation between science and public administration and responsible rules for AI development in Poland and Europe.

UNESCO Chair opened at IPPT PAN

The Chair was established by an agreement between UNESCO and IPPT PAN, signed by Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, on 26 May 2025, and by Prof. Tadeusz Burczyński, then Director of IPPT PAN, on 11 June 2025. The Chair operates within the structure of IPPT PAN.

On 22 September 2025 the Institute inaugurated the UNESCO Chair on the Ethical Governance of Artificial Intelligence — the first unit of this kind in Central and Eastern Europe.

Among the guests were Mariusz Lewicki, Permanent Representative of Poland to UNESCO; Prof. Michał Kleiber, Chair of the Polish National Commission for UNESCO; Prof. Natalia Sobczak, Vice-President of the Polish Academy of Sciences; Prof. Tomasz Kapitaniak, Dean of Division IV of PAS; and representatives of PAN institutes, universities and the legal community.

The meeting was chaired by Prof. Tadeusz Burczyński, who presented the aims of the new Chair. The opening lecture, “Ethics and Cognitive Problems in Artificial Intelligence”, was delivered by Prof. Marcin Miłkowski (Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, PAS).
